Worst President Ever

"In this job you've got a lot on your plate on a regular basis; you don't have much time to sit around and wander, lonely, in the Oval Office, kind of asking different portraits, 'How do you think my standing will be?'"--George W. Bush, March 2005

No, George--we never mistook you for someone with an ounce of introspection. Or in seeing the big picture or taking the long view, or any of those critical faculties that develop wisdom and are characteristic of good leadership. Don't you Worry--that's OUR job.

But, Rolling Stone has a wonderful article written by a historian that takes a look at just what this guy's standing might be, further on down the line. It has effectively raised my hope meter. Maybe we will come out of this wreckage of an administration with someone who is as inspiring and unifying as this guy is, well, just the opposite.

Having waved away the lessons of history in the making of his decisions, the present-minded Bush doesn't seem to be concerned about his place in history. "History. We won't know," he told the journalist Bob Woodward in 2003. "We'll all be dead."

Truly a visionary.

I am sorry but George W Bush is NOT the worst president ever. I don't see anyone else do anything better then what he is doing now.

Interestingly enough, when I posted on this article last week, I got a number of people who wrote like the person above, that there must be another president worse. Of course, no one came up with anyone who was actually a worse president. I suppose the fact that we would even consider the possibility that he could be the worst president tells us about the job he's doing, and he would be my choice for the worst, hands down.

I live in Texas and knew what the country was in for when he was elected. Please don't blame Texas or Texans for the mess he has made. Not all of us or republican or idiots.

I too agree with scottage, worst hands down.

President Bush will go down on record as the most misinformed, misguided, most destructive, most greediest, most lacking in intelligence in the history of US presidents. I am ashamed at the Americans who voted for this schmuck! It's time we pull our heads out of the proverbial sand. He is not a god and he is not helping Americans. Same ole story... rule your people by political fear and propaganda. It is good to see that others are thinking on their own and voicing their displeasure at the misdeeds of this man. Bravo!

I disagree. George Bush is not a president, he is a dictator, a caudillo, in the Pinochet mold, except far more stupid. He was not elected.

Even as a dictator, he is bad, lacks a sense of responsibility and has nil vision.

You can't consider this man a president. No way, José. If anyone is prezdint, it's Rove. Or that clusterclownship Condi-Rummy-Dickie... I hope the world gets out of this one in decent shape...
